Asheville City Guide: Where to Eat Lunch

Grab a seat, and get comfy. It's Tuesday morning, and we're talking about the best places to eat lunch in Asheville!

Best Places to Eat Lunch in Asheville, NC

White Duck Taco Shop

White Duck was one of the first places I ever ate in Asheville, I think before I even lived here. Thought their menu is not as extensive (it’s not small by any means) as some other taco shops in town, their artisan tacos are YUM. They have two locations (downtown and in the River Arts), but I prefer eating at the River Arts bc you get a nice lil view of the French Broad River from there. Also open for dinner - and way affordable.

What to Order - Steak and Cheese Taco; Buffalo Chicken Taco; Pork Belly Taco

Taco Billy is the newer guy in town. Asheville loves its tacos, and we have a many of places you can get them; but Taco Billy has quickly become one of my favorites. They have a pretty extensive menu and everything is good. They even have brunch tacos - YES. Only negative? Not open for dinner - better get your fix before 3PM!

What to Order - Yard Bird; Little Sister; San Cris; Mama’s Favorite

Yes, another “mexican” place. But this one is different, I swear! While White Duck and Taco Billy are great for those taco fixes, come to Bandidos for every other Mexican craving (thought they do have tacos, too). Their chips are made in house and have this addicting spice on them. Get the queso, and the guacamole. Heck, get the whole damn trio. Anything that comes with those chips.

What to Order - quesadilla with chicken, steak, or pork; westside veggie quesadilla; bahn mi sandwich; and did someone say $5 margaritas EVERY DAY?

Get ready for the best damn barbecue you’ve ever had. Bold claim, I know (esp from a GA girl), but hear me out. If the flavors and sauce options (!!!) don’t sway you, maybe the long list of celebrities who’ve favorited this establishment will. Most notably, current President Barack Obama, as well as Ellie Goulding, to name a few. They have two locations - in the River Arts and in South Asheville. RA is only open for lunch on weekdays (and not for much longer as they're tearing down areas of the River Arts!) so if you’re in town for a weekend, it’s definitely worth the trip down to South. PS - they just released a cookbook, buy it here.

What to Order - honestly, anything. It’s all good. I’m a fan of pulled pork and chicken so I often go that route with mac and cheese + jalapeno cheese grits - definitely get the cheese grits.

The perfect place to stop for a bite to eat while shopping in Biltmore Village. It's nestled amongst all your favorite shops and will satisfy your salad + sandwich + soup craving. There's a sweet little patio out front for al fresco dining and they even serve take away food for an easy dinner later.

What to Order - Any sandwich, really. But besides that, get the vegan chocolate chip cookie. It's the size of your face and insanely delicious (I swear, I never thought I'd say that about something vegan - esp a sweet). I'm also a big fan of their lemonade.

Oh, how I've missed Homegrown now that I live so far from it. It's just a hop skip and a jump from downtown, if that's where you're staying. On the busy street of Merrimon in North Asheville, down the street from all the grocery stores. Homegrown serves up comfort food all day long. Sit on the patio and enjoy the sunshine or hide away in the back corner with your travel buddy and plan your day.

What to Order - Fried chicken and cheese grits

So, who's hungry? 🙋🏻

Happy eating, friends!
