Earring Inspiration: The HANNAH Earrings
Have you ever met someone for the first time that, within minutes, you feel like you've been friends with forever? The day I met my friend, Hannah, went something like that. When I first moved to Asheville back in August of 2014, I didn't really know anyone nor did I have any friends really - beside my sweet boyfriend Hobbs - who, don't get me wrong because I love him dearly, just cannot do "girl talk." So, when Hannah invited Hobbs and I on a hike Labor Day weekend, only 3 or so weeks after we had moved, I was excited (and nervous) to finally meet a girl with whom I might connect.
Hobbs knew Hannah from high school, but their friendship had not expanded past the idea that Hannah was Hobbs' friend's sister and Hobbs was Hannah's little brother's friend. They spent the first part of the hike making small talk about Charlotte, high school, and their mutual connection - Hannah's brother. I spent the first part of the hike being quiet, which, if you know me, is unusual. Making friends as an adult feels very much like dating - it's awkward and uncomfortable and you're always wanting to make a good impression. So, there was no way I was about to screw up our "first date!" But, when Hannah turned to me and asked me what I do, everything changed. Hannah works closely with artists of all mediums in her job in the craft industry, and her curiosity into my business sparked a friendship I never saw coming. We clicked instantly, and poor Hobbs was history for the rest of the hike (sorry!).
Fast forward almost two years and Hannah is still one of my closest friends. She is one of the kindest, most thoughtful, and most giving people I know. She is one of those people who will drop everything she is doing, no matter its importance at the time, to be by your side should you need her. To be completely honest, I'm not sure this collection would have been finished without Hannah's encouragement. When I was at my wits end finalizing the Pantone Collection, exhausted and just plain over it, Hannah's words of affirmation kept me going. She reminded me that what I am doing is valuable and has importance. I am not just making jewelry for nothing; I am doing something I love in order to have the ability to give back to those who need it in any way I see possible. Hannah is the bird on my shoulder and the whisper in my ear constantly telling me that I am good enough. So for that, and a million and one other reasons, I give you The HANNAH Earrings.
Happy Tuesday, folks!
