5 Happy Things

Happy New Year, everyone! I had a conversation with a friend of mine a few months ago where we were both just complaining about whatever we could think of (as many of us often do) - work things, personal things, world things, you name it - we were just sitting there feeding off of each other until she stopped, looked me dead in the eye, and said "I'm resolving to complain less, and be grateful more in 2017." And it struck me, don't we all need to have that mentality?

So, in 2017, I'm resolving to be more grateful. That conversation ended with each of us writing down a long list of things that we were grateful for and that made us happy at that moment. That list of "happy things" has grown to be so much more than I could've ever expected. It grew from a tiny scrap piece of paper to an ever-expanding list on my phone's notes. With that "happy" mentality in mind, I'm excited to share with you my "5 Happy Things" list once a month (or as often as comes to mind) here on the blog. Sometimes that will be the jewelry I'm wearing, but mostly it will be funny memes, gifs, products, or pictures. Either way, I hope we can all share a little happy in this creative space in 2017.

5 Happy Things

Yes, there's snow falling outside of my apartment right now, and yes, I'm PUMPED about it. Last year, we had a big snow storm come through on a weekend in January, and it is by far one of my favorite memories with my Asheville friends. I can't wait to see where this weekend takes us in this cold weather goodness.

2. Color-coded Calendars
I've spent the entire week planning for the rest of the year, and yall, I have a serious problem with colored post-it notes. I'm obsessed with them. I have a pack in my purse at all times to write down ideas and place on a day in one of my three (yes, three) office desktop calendars - print, baby, none of that digital stuff. JK, once I nail down actual tasks for actual days, I'll put it all into my google calendar. But for now, using erasable colored pencils and crazy colored post-its is fueling both my left and right brains, and I'm one happy girl/nerd.

The Magnolia Story. MFF 5 Happy Things

3. The Magnolia Story
I gifted this book to myself this Christmas (yeah, gifting to yourself is a thing), and I just started it earlier this week. I don't think I've stopped smiling since I opened it. Everything Chip and Jo say is just so authentic and real (and funny). If you're looking for a book to cozy up to the fire with this weekend, grab one at your local bookshop or overnight it from Amazon - totally worth it.

MFF Skillet Donut Stout

4. Skillet Donut Stout
Burial Brewing, my favorite brewery in Asheville, has this both canned and on draft right now, and it's giving me all the feels. I don't know why I love dark beers so much, but I genuinely look forward to every winter when I'm able to grab some of this goodness at my favorite spot in town. If you're anywhere near Asheville, do yourself a favor and grab a 4 pack to go home with - you won't be disappointed. And, if you happen to have time on your hands, stick around to drink one at the brewery and they just *might* put a lil Vortex donut hole in your beverage as a sweet garnish.

5. YOU
Receiving the stories and pictures from your Christmas purchases seriously put a smile on my face for the entire holiday break. Thank you, thank you for sharing in this dream with me!

Welp, that's it for this Friday's edition. Happy New Year - I can't wait to share with you all the things I have planned for this year!
