The Start of Wedding Season
Hobbs and I are attending our first wedding of 2017 tomorrow at Lake Norman, NC, and from the pictures on their site, I can only imagine that it will be breathtakingly beautiful. I love wedding season because 1. celebrating (esp celebrating dear friends) is always so much fun (duh.) and 2. the dresses + accessories. My favorite kind of style is suuuper laid-back casual or super fun and fancy dressy (aka most wedding guest attire). The halfway in-between casual and super formal (aka what you're supposed to wear when you "go out" at night) is just not my thing. I like to be comfortable or I like to look damn good (ya know what I mean?) Anywho, wedding season gives me the opportunity to really layer on the jewels without ever feeling like I'm overdoing it (is overdoing jewelry even a thing? I think not.) So, in light of this upcoming fancy wedding, I give you two of the dresses I'm deciding between as well as the jewels I have paired to go with them. I'm still not sure which ensemble I'll go with, so if you've got a favorite - feel free to let me know in the comments!
I scored this gorgeously delicate + feminine blush lace dress from Anthro for $8.50 (seriously, it was just one of those stories you read about... it was already marked down to $10 bc it was missing a slip, but it turns out they found a slip my size that would work in the back & then kindly gave me another 15% off for the missing slip debacle. Durham Anthro, you are my new best friend.) It's nowhere on their site anymore, but I found a few for sale here and here.
Coastal Road is one of my favorite go-to brands for insanely plush + quality leather goods so their Pearl Boa Zipper Clutch is a no-brainer.
I'd polish this look off with MFF jewels (of course): a short, collar-length XL Porcupine Necklace, gold Birch Dangles, Bangle/Cuff Stack consisting of our Skinny Mini Cuffs in gold + silver, Scallop Bangle in gold, and Skinny Birch Cuff in silver. Finish the look with a Tell Me About It Ring in gold with the bone stone, and stack on the Scallop Ring and Sticks Ring, both in gold.
I found this dress by Ark & Co at one of my favorite Asheville shops back in December (see all my AVL shopping recs here) and somehow haven't had an occasion to bring it out until now. I love the playful cutout that still makes me feel covered and appropriate in all the right places (I swear I'm not usually one to bare my midriff). I couldn't find my exact dress anywhere here on the interweb, but it seems their sleeveless version is still available (mine has sleeves that go all the way down to your elbows). Shop their sleeveless version here. Or splurge with a similar version from Rebecca Taylor here.
Honestly, I'd probably wear this dress with my nude heels because I don't have black strappy sandals that I really love. But, next time I'm in the market for some, you better believe these Loeffler Randall scalloped babies are at the top of my list.
How fun is this Rebecca Minkoff clutch? It adds just the right pop of color without overshadowing or busying up the outfit too much. I found the black version on major sale here, and the metallic silver also on sale here.
Simple, but bold choices in the jewelry department: Sticks Cuff in gold (wedding season + formal events is always my favorite time to bring this one out to play!), After Midnight Drop Earrings in gold add subtle but statement-making color, and then horizontally stack your Birch Cigar Band in silver, Double V Ring in gold, and Denim Dreamin Ring in gold for a dramatic champagne toast! I'd keep a naked neck so as to not take away from all the fun going on with the dress.
Happy Wedding-ing this weekend, folks! (I hear there will be a ton on this first of April :))
