March's 5 Happy Things
Oh man, it's been a whirlwind 2017! Only two and a half months in, and I already feel like a whole year has happened. Thank goodness it's still just March.
Welp, we are officially settled in Raleigh, NC, and I couldn't love our little bungalow any more, but more on that in a bit. I've said this to many friends over the past week, but I am just beyond grateful for a smooth transition from Asheville to Raleigh. Raleigh (thankfully) is not too far from Asheville nor my hometown of Columbus, GA, and it also feels so familiar already. Though I had only been to the city twice before moving here as a full-time resident, there is just something about it that is much more familiar than it is foreign. The different parts that I've seen thus far have each remind me of one of my favorite cities - I get glimpses of Seattle, Portland, Asheville, Columbus every time I turn a corner. It's a wonderful little treat that I never could have anticipated before moving.
So anyway, back to my "5 Happy Things" (and this month is a GOOD one)....
1. I'm an AUNT, again!
Yesterday, my amazing rockstar of an oldest sister brought an adorable little boy into this world. Graham Thomas Brocato is so squishy and cute, and I can't wait to meet him in a month. Now we're just waiting on another little boy from my middle sister due later this week... (they were due one day apart!!)
2. My creative community
Sometimes I forget to rely on my tribe, or my creative community, as often as I should. I had a much overdue phone call with my creative friend, Evelyn Henson, yesterday, and I just felt so revived after we talked! Having friends to bounce ideas off of and vent your frustrations with is absolutely crucial to this entrepreneurial journey (as I've said before many a times), and sometimes I forget that. Thank you, Ev, for your friendship + constant encouragement!
3. Our Raleigh House
We spent the better part of our first weekend here painting and arranging furniture, and our house is finally the way we like it! We still need to hang a few pictures, but for the most part, it has all come together. It's an old bungalow style home, and I'm beyond grateful for a fenced in backyard. Obviously, Porter loves it, too. I've lived in 5 living spaces since graduating from college, and this is, by far, my favorite - I mean, who doesn't love a wraparound porch?
4. Mix n match earrings
The weekend before I moved, three of my best college friends came to visit me and introduced me to a trend that I've been seeing for a while but hadn't really gotten into yet: the art of the mix n match. I know, I know this has been going on for a while (I remember my NYC roommate doing it 4 years ago), but whatever - it takes me a while to catch on to trends. Can't help it, I've just always been that way. I like to know "trends" have a little bit of staying power before I just hop on that bandwagon. Well, anyway, I've been wearing 1 Cluster Climber with 1 Line Stud for days, and I gotta say, I am really digging the juxtaposition of color vs solid metal and short vs long. If I started offering my earrings as singles, would any of you ladies actually like that? Let me know in the comments below. (Also, just looked back at February's 5 Happy Things and realized I included the climbers in that list, too. Whoops! Obvi I'm working on more climber style earrings bc I'm obsessed. Stay in the loop here.)
5. Spring temps!
It's alllmooostttt here!! Though Raleigh had a weird cold snap this weekend, I think we're in for some warmer weather (or at least we better be bc I already put my heaviest coats up in the attic). The trees are starting to bloom, and I saw my first spotting of one of my favorite flowers in Fresh Market the other day - tulips!
Happy Tuesday, folks! I stopped for a second this morning because for some reason I had been thinking it was Thursday. Yeah, it's been that kinda Tuesday. But, oh well, only two more days until my BFF comes to visit for the weekend + St. Paul & The Broken Bones!
